Description
Mechanics are responsible for providing complex mechanical and HVAC maintenance across large institutional facilities. This role supports daily building operations through inspection, repair, replacement, and preventative maintenance of mechanical systems and related equipment. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to safety, and the ability to work independently while supporting a team-oriented environment.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Test, inspect, adjust, and repair mechanical building systems
  • Align, service, and replace hot water heating, chilled water, and condenser water pumps
  • Inspect, service, and operate water heating and low-pressure steam systems
  • Repair and replace steam, hot water, and chiller system components
  • Perform daily operation and maintenance of chilled water generating equipment (non-refrigerant side)
  • Inspect, clean, maintain, and operate cooling towers
  • Repair and replace air handler components, dampers, coils, fans, and generator engines
  • Inspect, test, clean, lubricate, and monitor fire pumps and related equipment
  • Shut down, start up, repair, and install irrigation systems
  • Reset and program building master clocks and lighting panels
  • Flush and winterize heating and cooling coils
  • Notify supervision of equipment, supply, and facility repair needs
  • Maintain safe, clean work areas and follow established operating procedures

Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education
  • Technical training in mechanical maintenance
  • Minimum 3 years of applicable mechanical experience
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the role
  • Strong safety mindset and adherence to procedures
  • Professional, cooperative communication skills when interacting with coworkers and the public


Nice-to-Have Skills, Experience, and Education

  • HVAC system experience
  • Experience with steam, chilled water, or institutional facility systems
  • Military mechanical background (highly valued)
