Description
The Critical Systems Technician III – HVAC serves as the lead technician for all mission-critical mechanical services and maintenance under contract. This position is responsible for monitoring compliance with contractual commitments while providing technical leadership in the installation, service, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation of mission-critical HVAC systems supporting data center environments.
Responsibilities include performing preventive maintenance, routine and emergency repairs, troubleshooting, maintaining Building Automation Systems, responding to after-hours service calls, mentoring lower-level technicians, participating in an on-call rotation, and ensuring the reliable operation of critical mechanical infrastructure.

Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Successful completion of a basic air conditioning theory course.
  • Minimum of 7 years of large commercial HVAC service experience required (8 years preferred).
  • Experience servicing and troubleshooting:
    • Air- and water-cooled reciprocating chillers
    • Centrifugal and screw package chillers
    • Natural gas boilers and unit heaters
    • Electric duct heaters
    • Cooling towers
    • HVAC air distribution systems, AHUs, FCUs, fans, and related equipment
    • Water pumps used in HVAC systems
  • Experience with:
    • Direct Digital Controls (DDC)
    • Pneumatic controls
    • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
    • Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Ability to properly use HVAC diagnostic tools and instruments.
  • Must successfully complete all required client background checks and training.
  • U.S. Citizen required.

Requirements:
  • EPA Universal Certification (required).
  • Current/Active Virginia Journeyman HVAC License.
  • OSHA Certification.
  • Valid Virginia or Maryland Driver's License.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office or equivalent software.
  • Ability to respond to after-hours service calls and participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Ability to mentor and train lower-level technicians.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while working in commercial mechanical environments.
  • No supervisory responsibilities.
  • U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain a security clearance preferred.

Nice-to-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
  • Eight or more years of large commercial HVAC service experience.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical data centers or similar critical facilities.
  • Experience maintaining and backing up Building Automation Software.
  • Previous leadership or mentoring experience in commercial HVAC environments.
  • Government or secure facility experience.
