Description

Design & Support Engineer

Location: York, PA – In Person
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

Precision Custom Components (PCC) is a leading manufacturer of custom-fabricated pressure vessels, reactors, casks, and heavy-walled components supporting highly regulated defense and industrial applications. PCC is seeking a Design & Support Engineer to develop and evaluate unique, first-of-their-kind designs that support machining, welding, assembly, testing, material handling, and facility operations.

This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in complex, non-repeat design environments, understands manufacturability in heavy industrial settings, and is motivated to ensure designs are safe, structurally sound, compliant, and fully documented.

What You'll Do

  • Design and support in-house machining, welding, assembly, testing, shipping, and material-handling fixtures
  • Develop layouts and support plant modifications, new building construction, and manufacturing process improvements
  • Perform design calculations, structural and thermal simulations, and prepare technical design reports
  • Support compliance with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (Section III and Section VIII)
  • Generate and review 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using GD&T standards
  • Provide technical guidance and design support to manufacturing and engineering teams
  • Review and check drawings, models, simulations, and calculations generated by others
  • Recommend and implement improvements to manufacturing methods, equipment, and workflows
  • Act as a Load Test Examiner, supporting test setup, procedures, training, and execution
  • Act as a Derivative Classifier, reviewing, classifying, and redacting controlled and classified technical documents
  • Collaborate with Project Engineering, Quality, Weld Engineering, Materials, Suppliers, and Manufacturing
  • Provide task estimates and support project planning efforts
  • Mentor and train less experienced engineers as needed

Must-Have Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • FE / EIT certification (PE license required within 5 years of hire in Pennsylvania)
  • 2+ years of experience in design, mechanical, structural, manufacturing, or industrial engineering
  • Strong understanding of engineering design principles, drafting standards, and GD&T
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling, assemblies, drawings, and simulations
  • Experience with structural and thermal analysis
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. and capable of holding a security clearance

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with ASME pressure vessel or nuclear-grade components
  • Familiarity with heavy fabrication, welding, and machining environments
  • Experience with carbon steel, stainless steel, plastics, and wood
  • Exposure to HBMs, gantry mills, VBMs, or large-scale manufacturing equipment
  • Prior experience supporting classified or defense-related programs

Who You Are

  • A self-starter who thrives in complex, first-of-a-kind design challenges
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable balancing multiple priorities in a high-accountability environment
  • A collaborative engineer who works effectively across disciplines
  • Confident communicating technical concepts verbally and in writing
  • Motivated to improve manufacturing efficiency, safety, and quality

Additional Details

  • Salary Range: $80,000 – $100,000 per year
  • Work Location: On-site (In Person)
  • Benefits: 401(k) matching, medical, dental, vision, PTO, flexible spending account, tuition reimbursement, life insurance, employee assistance program, referral program
