Description

Summary: 

The Facilities Mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance, repair, and general upkeep of the company’s infrastructure and equipment. This includes troubleshooting, installing, and maintaining building systems that support ship construction, repair operations, and maritime engineering activities. 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance on facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, lighting, compressed air, and electrical infrastructure. 
  • Maintain and repair shipyard infrastructure such as cranes, hoists, welding stations, and heavy machinery. 
  • Inspect and service overhead doors, loading docks, pumps, piping, generators, and other critical systems. 
  • Support the setup, relocation, and alignment of industrial equipment as needed for production or engineering operations. 
  • Assist with preventative maintenance programs and maintain accurate service records using CMMS or work order systems. 
  • Perform basic fabrication tasks such as cutting, grinding, welding, or light carpentry when necessary for repairs or installations. 
  • Respond to facility-related service requests and work orders in a timely and professional manner. 
  • Work with external contractors and service providers when needed for specialized repairs or upgrades. 
  • Follow all safety procedures and company policies, especially within industrial and shipyard environments. 
  • Assist in maintaining clean and organized maintenance workspaces and supply areas. 
Qualifications & Minimum Requirements: 
  • High school diploma or GED; trade school certification or technical training preferred. 
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial, facilities, or mechanical maintenance. 
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, plumbing, and basic electrical troubleshooting. 
  • Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals. 
  • Comfortable working in active shipyard or industrial environments (outdoors, at heights, or in confined spaces). 
Physical Demands: 
  • While performing these job duties, the employee is routinely required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; use fingers and hands to type or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks. 
Work Environment: 
  • This position is performed in a traditional shipyard and manufacturing environment with local travel required between facilities.
