THE ROLE
Most quality engineers find bugs. The best ones design systems that make bugs findable — and prevent the most expensive ones from ever reaching production.
We are looking for a Senior SDET / QA Automation Engineer who can own the entire quality engineering function on enterprise client engagements: test architecture, automation strategy, performance validation, CI/CD quality gates, and the engineering practices that make a team consistently confident to ship.
This is not a test-execution role. You will design the framework others build on, define the standards the team ships against, and drive quality from the earliest stages of product development — sitting inside sprints, not waiting at the end of them.

WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY DO
Architect and own the end-to-end test automation strategy — framework selection, coverage layers (unit, integration, E2E, API, performance), tooling decisions, and execution model. Build it to last, not just to work today.
Design and implement automated test frameworks using Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or equivalent; establish Page Object Model patterns, fixture management, and test data strategies that the rest of the team can extend reliably.
Lead API and service-level testing — contract testing, integration tests, schema validation, and performance profiling across REST and event-driven architectures.
Own CI/CD quality gates — design and maintain the pipeline integration so every commit is tested meaningfully, failures are signal-rich, and the pipeline stays fast enough to be used.
Define and implement performance and load testing programs using k6, JMeter, Locust, or equivalent; establish SLA baselines, identify bottlenecks, and validate performance under realistic production conditions.
Drive shift-left quality practices — embed in design reviews and sprint planning, shape acceptance criteria, and catch testability issues before they become expensive problems.
Mentor mid-level QA engineers and developers on automation best practices, test design patterns, and the engineering standards that make test code maintainable at scale.
Report on quality metrics and release readiness — coverage trends, defect escape rates, automation ROI, and pipeline health — in terms that drive real decisions.
THE TECHNICAL BAR
We are looking for engineers who have built test frameworks from the ground up and operated them in real delivery contexts at scale. Technical depth is the floor; architecture judgment is the differentiator.

Security testing integration — DAST/SAST tooling in pipelines, OWASP vulnerability scanning
Mobile automation at scale — Appium, XCUITest, or Espresso in a CI context
BDD framework ownership — Cucumber, SpecFlow, or Behave; has defined Gherkin standards with product and business teams
Observability and monitoring integration — linking test coverage to production alerting and SLO tracking
AI-assisted QA tooling — using LLMs for test case generation, coverage gap analysis, or intelligent test data creation
Experience in regulated environments (healthcare, finance) with compliance testing requirements
WORKING CONTEXT
This is a remote-first, distributed senior role. You will own the quality engineering function on enterprise client engagements, collaborating with development teams, product managers, and client engineering leadership.
Senior engineers at HatchWorks AI operate with high autonomy and full accountability. You set the quality direction for an engagement, define the standards, and own the outcomes. There is no QA manager above you to escalate to — you are the quality authority on the project.
AI developer tooling is part of how we work. Using Claude, Copilot, or AI-assisted testing tools to move faster, generate smarter test coverage, and analyze failure patterns is an expectation — not a differentiator.

Business fluency — you can explain release risk and quality investment trade-offs to a VP or a client stakeholder. Test coverage is not the goal; confidence to ship is.
